Somerset House

Last Friday night I went to Somerset House on the Strand to watch Professor Green perform as part of a series of gigs put on every summer at this splendid venue in central London.

Thankfully, it was a gorgeous evening after a day of torrential rain; and the event was attended by at least 400 or so people. It took place in the grounds at the heart of the floodlit building which architecturally was easy on the eye and clearly steeped in years of history; contrasting with the rather fresh and new sound of Hackneys newest hip hop star Professor Green who literally shook the house and built the crowd into a frenetic frenzy.

Being there at this open air gig under the stars watching a cross section of London's children and adults alike united in their appreciation for this modern character portrayal of the artful dodger! It reminded me why I love London so much and got me asking myself why I don't come to Somerset House more.

Somerset House is a key cultural London attraction. It's Summer Series each year brings some of the worlds hottest artists to its pop up stage from Florence and the Machine to Aloe Blacc; Their Film4 Summer screenings showcase movies we love that can be enjoyed in a funky al fresco vibe; and each year they play host to London Fashion Week. In the Winter too, Somerset House maintains its appeal with an ice rink in the courtyard! Genius!!

In addition to all of this, here is where you can enjoy great exhibitions in the Embankment galleries which is currently showcasing iconic photography of the fashion greats such as Georgio Armani, D&G and Gucci. Plus there are, talks, courses, events and free family workshops all year round!

There are courses for up and coming musicians, a masterclass for games design and so much more to enable and inspire all those who have creative flair.

The family workshops take place every Saturday from 2pm until 3:30pm. They are creative events for the whole family but the children must be aged 6-12. Unfortunately my two have a few years to go before they qualify but it hasn't stopped us enjoying all that this magnificent venue has to offer.

It's a cool venue in this much loved city and a must-see venue for londoners and tourists alike.

If you haven't already, you have got to check this place out.

Enjoy
